Behind the fragrance

How Scentsy Bars are made

For every Scentsy addict who has ever wondered where the wax comes from, here is the fascinating journey from Toronto to Scentsy Home Office in Idaho — and what happens once it arrives.

When I visited Scentsy Home Office, visitors were limited in what we could photograph in manufacturing — but I came away with so much appreciation for the scale, care and people behind every little Wax Bar.

From humble beginnings

Where the Scentsy story started

On my visit, I also got to step inside the shipping container on the small sheep farm where Scentsy began in 2004 as a party-plan business. Seeing that tiny starting point made the scale of the company today feel even more extraordinary.

Then & now

From a simple square block to an iconic clamshell

The first versions of a Scentsy Bar were simple square blocks of wax. Today, the familiar clamshell shape is instantly recognisable — but one much-loved fragrance has stayed close to Scentsy’s heart: Banana Nut Bread, a firm favourite of co-owner Heidi Thompson.

1. The journey begins in Toronto

The unscented wax for Scentsy Wax Bars begins its journey in Toronto. It is melted and loaded into a huge rail tanker before travelling to Scentsy Home Office in Idaho, USA.

A seriously big journey: the tanker holds an incredible 250,000 gallons of wax.

2. Six weeks on the tracks

The trip along the tracks to Boise takes around six weeks. By the time the tanker reaches Idaho, the wax has set again inside it.

3. Warming the wax back up

Once the tanker arrives, it is connected to a large pump. Hot air is passed around the shell of the tanker to gently re-melt the wax, which is then pumped into huge tanks inside the building.

4. From tanks to Wax Bars

From there, the wax is fragranced and poured into the Scentsy Bars we know and love. Around 300,000 Bars are made each day.

There are four pouring machines — Alice, Fred, Alfred and Waximus — and each one can pour two fragrances at a time.

5. And the bricks?

Scentsy Bricks are hand poured — a lovely detail that makes them feel even more special.

6. A very special Brick

When I visited Scentsy Home Office in July 2026, I was gifted a beautiful 43° North Wax Brick — a lovely reminder of the visit and of the people behind every fragrance.

A highlight from my visit

Intermountain Blending & Filling

Touring the Intermountain Blending & Filling building at Scentsy Home Office — where all of the magic happens — was one of the highlights of my trip. After watching Scentsy Pods being made from start to finish, we were gifted a pack of an upcoming fragrance: Dark Veiled Lilac.

A proud moment

Ten years of achievements

One of the most heartwarming moments of my visit was seeing my achievements displayed on the huge Home Office lobby screen — ten years of incentive achievements, personal promotions and earned trips, all in one place. It was a moment I will never forget.

Lauren’s takeaway: Every time I break a cube from a Wax Bar, I now think of the incredible journey it has taken before it reaches our homes.
